Summary:<p>The theme of shyness is explored while analyzing the poem <em>Shyness</em> (<em>Voz’ytlyk</em>) by the first Udmurt poetess Ashalchi Oki. She provides readers with her own understanding of one of the distinguishing features of the Udmurts. Exhibiting individual characteristics of the lyric character the poet could show a peculiarity of the Udmurt mentality which was influenced by natural, social and cultural factors. The state of shyness in the artistic work reflects mythological, cultural, ethnical, psychological, and medical conceptions.</p>
