description Aim: In this study, it was aimed to indicate the importance of pre- and post- exposure prophylaxis in rabies suspected animal contact case which is an important public health problem for our country. Patients and Methods: In this study, the demographic characteristics of 3455 patients who presented to emergency service due to rabies suspected animal exposure were examined retrospectively. In order to evaluate study data, Pearson Chi- Square, One samples and Independent samples T test were used to compare qualitative data. The descriptive data were expressed as frequency and % also p <0.05 considered statistically significantResults: 1454 (42.1%) of total 3455 patients were female, 2001 (57.9%) were male and the mean age of the patients was 26.99 ± 19.905 years (min 1 max 92 years). 2-1-1 vaccination scheme was applied to 780 (22.5%), 4 doses scheme was applied to 2059 (59.5%) and 5 doses scheme was applied to 235(6.8%)  patients. 1693 (49%) patients were injected Immunglobulin (IG). As 84 (2.4%) patient didn't require prophylaxis they were not on the vaccination schedule. Tetanus prophylaxis was performed on 1848 (53.4%) patients. Conclusion: Rabies risky contact is an important public health problem in our region. Animal contacted patient with rabies is  an emergency situation. Rabies can be prevented 100% with proper wound care and appropriate prophylaxis.
