description The paper analyzes the European absolute monarchy as a socio-political phenomenon. The trends in the development of European countries and the main directions of transformation of political structures are discussed, defining features of absolute monarchy are determined. The author examines various factors that influenced the formation and development of the absolute monarchy in Europe. It is shown that the absolute monarchy was a phenomenon of the transitional epoch, which was characterized by a combination of old and new principles of administration. Historiographical problems and main approaches to the interpretation of the absolute monarchy are described. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of the nature of social ties between the state and the society as a whole, as well as between the state and particular social groups.
