Summary:One of the most important acts related to ethical violations in both scientific and artistic works has been plagiarism which is the term used for literary theft. The act of plagiarism, which can be defined as one’s misleading related people by presenting an idea, thought or judgement belonging to others as if his/her own and thus constituting a work by the material of somebody else, has been evaluated rather in terms of contemporary works. However, the past of plagiarism is as old as the past of science and art. In other words, wherever and whenever human and work exist ethical degeneration or gangrene will come into question. In this sense, in the tradition of divan poetry which deserves to be called as “classic” by taking on the representation task of Turkish literature for centuries, among poets, with regard to the meaning and/or linguistic material used in their poems, the number of the examples in which similarities exceed the level of being affected and can be defined as theft, are not a few. More importantly in the tradition of classical poetry those kind of theft examples have been rendered an important component of poetry by being legalized, praised and even encouraged under cover of “nazire” (imitative or parallel poetry). In this study, several examples, which can be qualified as affection, inspiration or at a more advanced level plagiarism in classical Turkish literature and especially in the field of poetry, are to be discussed. In this sense a ghazal of Hayali Bey that has been written as a nazire itself for another poem and a ghazal of Seyhulislam Yahya with same meter and rhyme will be tried to be analysed comperatively by considering other similar examples as well.
