Description
Summary:The aim of this study is to reveal the network patterns in which the actors are embedded by examining the structures in the social network mechanism, which are thought to be effective in the selection of the independent members in the boards of directors of the holdings, in terms of social capital components. Based on this purpose, the sample of the research on the importance of the subject consists of 14 holdings traded in BIST 100 and 29 affiliated companies, 112 independent members and 41 owners and chairman of the board of directors of these companies between the years of 2012-2018. In the research, information about the social capital of the actors was obtained with secondary data to reveal the independent members' social network mechanisms. The obtained data were analyzed with the UCINET Network analysis program. As a result of the analyses made, it is concluded that social capital is an important variable in the selection of independent board members and that the network mechanisms in which they are embedded are effective in selecting independent board members.
