Description
Summary:The possible existence of Chinese analogues of Celestina and of its central character has received little scholarly attention. In view of the interest that the presence of Chinese analogues may pose to the study of Spanish go-between, this essay intends  to  investigate  characteristics  essential  to  Chinese  go-between  through  the analysis of some terminologies, and to briefly examine its function in Jin Ping Mei or The Plum in the Golden Vase. This essay does not intend to suggest any genetic relationship between the Spanish go-between and Chinese version, but the presence of a common motif that transcends cultures. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to certain parallels between the two.
