Summary: | The paper summarizes the methodological background and the main
outcomes of the FORMIT project (Forest Management Options for Enhancing
the Mitigation Potential for European Forest), an FP7 undertaking run by
Wageningen University and employing 11 participants (research institutes and
universities). Because this research note was published before having the final
deliverables approved by the Commission we have confined our presentation the
methodological challenges the project team had to dealt with and the main results
of the Life Cycle Assessment component, which is by far the most interesting
and provocative contribution of the project to drafting a post-Kyoto agenda for
forestry. Because many results are based on a very consistent use of rough data
coming from national forest inventories, and the Romanian partner had not made
use of a great deal of data which might have contributed to a better evaluation of
the growth potential of Romanian forests, the methodological background was
thoroughly explained in Romanian language. |
