Description
Summary:This study seeks to advance the understanding of how women become psychologically connected to intense physically active leisure in order to develop strategies that promote engagement in physical activity. In this study 62 women were surveyed to determine their psychological connection to fitness boot camp. When women participate in fitness boot camp, they participate for the enjoyment and interesting program elements. Also participants enjoy discussing fitness boot camp, but their life is not organized around participation. Participants do not use fitness boot camp as a means of self-identification; however, they are committed to participation. Nearly one half of participants participate with a friend. This indicates the importance of a shared experience.
