Description
Summary:This research investigated the context of treatment of autistic spectrum in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Six representatives of institutions that treat autistic children were interviewed. The results revealed that the target audience of these institutions is, mostly, special children. A method of treatment and a specific clinic and theoretical education for the handling of autistic children was not found. According to Winnicott’s theory the treatment for autism must aim to the resumption of the maturing process, to which is necessary to offer a suitable environment, counting with the involvement of both institutions and parents. A specific education is required to work with this population, as well as social and governmental support
