Description
Summary:Some interesting physical aspects of chemical explosions are compiled. An explosion is understood as a fast release of energy. There are many types of explosion, including a deflagration as a pressure-controlled explosion and a detonation as an explosion independent from boundary conditions. Using a simple model the coupling mechanisms between physics and chemistry in a reaction front of a gas explosion is enlightened. Exploding clouds of hydrocarbons dissipate the released energy mainly by means of heat radiation, blast waves and fragments. Simple theorectical considerations show the principles to be respected in damage assessments of these phenomena.
