| Summary: | The normative underpinnings of the capabilities approach in the Nussbaum project emphasize both the idea that people's freedom to achieve fulfillment is of overriding moral importance and that human development should be understood in terms of capabilities and their functioning. Capabilities are essential for individuals to realize their life plans: life, health, bodily integrity, senses, emotions, practical reason, relationships with others and with other species, the ability to enjoy and play, and control over one's environment. The exploratory analysis proposed in this article aims to highlight the humanistic/philosophical significance of policy change for real people in real contexts, and to argue for linguistic justice as an element of authentic adjustment of mechanisms that can provide social justice and ensure that people's quality of life improves. |
