description The planning function within the framework of public management is associated with more comprehensive determinants that refer to the extension of the functions of the State and the different modalities of construction of public policies. Based on this assumption, the text reviews its translation to the field of education policies, referring to the origins and evolution of educational planning and the particular conditions of that process in Latin America. Likewise, different planning models are presented, and their adaptation to the needs of the educational policies of the region in the current situation is discussed.
