description Through the example of Kurtuluş neighborhood, this article attempts to describe and analyze the mechanisms of enhancement of the past that takes place in the ancient quarters of Istanbul since early 2000. In Kurtuluş, this revaluation of the past is performed by a non-official and largely exogenous myriad of actors (living outside the district or Turkey) involved in rewriting the local history through various media. This article focuses on the multiple interactions within memorial entrepreneurs as a self-between, an overlapping and / or a competition illustrating the various issues related to this memory production. Other uses of the past are also highlighted as the reappropriations with commercial or real estate purposes to reflect the articulations between the different dimensions of the neighborhood’s revalorization.
