Summary:The paper focuses on Kemerovo region militia units activities for road safety in 1943 – 1953, defining features of this activity. The author identified the measures to prevent road accidents in the residential areas of the region at that time, and considered the other measures aimed at road safety, which were carried out by the militia in collaboration with the executive committees of the Soviets at various levels. We studied the activity of the State Automobile Inspectorate for technical control over vehicles and preparation of drivers. The paper gives information on the size of the technical equipment and the first units of the State Automobile Inspectorate, the establishment of the first road signs and traffic lights in the city’s streets. In preparing the study, the author used several documents of the State archives of Kemerovo region, some of which are introduced for scientific use for the first time.
