Summary:Acting in an emergency situation requires from managers and rescuers appropriate personality traits and skills. Therefore, in an effective crisis management it is essential to select the best possible candidates. The paper presents suggestions for a set of personality traits and abilities which are the most valuable for managers while dealing with a crisis. The paper also deliberates on the issue of posttraumatic stress disorder that frequently occurs in case of rescuers and members of uniformed services. The author also proposes different forms of therapy both in the workplace and carried out by professionals. Another aspect discussed in the paper is prevention and safety management which aim at creating a society capable of minimising the probability of emergency occurrence.
