description The formation of the cognitive component of attitude to the professional activity in the learning process promotes the development of students’ cognition, improves the organization of personnel recruitment. Hypothesis: in the employees of the customs service, the cognitive component of attitude to the profession is dominated by quality, aimed at social relevance and benefit to society. The study sample comprised 77 customs officers 22 to 52 years old. We used the “Specialized semantic differentials to estimate the work, profession and professional” by V.P. Serkin. For data processing we used the method of semantic universals. We revealed the necessary professional qualities, subjective representation of work, profession, professionals, through individual, moral, ethical, organizational qualities and evaluation of social significance. We conclude that the cognitive component of attitude to the professional activity is expressed in terms of important professional qualities and evaluation of the respondents themselves as professionals. These cognitions promote individual and professional development in education
