description The « History of Civilizations of Central Asia », a collective work carried out under the aegis of UNESCO from 1976 to 2005, aims to relate in a unified manner the past of an original cultural area, which encompasses an immense territory sharing a common cultural heritage despite the diversity of the peoples who have inhabited it. It is under the supervision of an international scientific committee that this History has been elaborated, mobilizing since 1980 more than 200 scholars. The realization of this historiographic project, as well as the UNESCO project of scientific expeditions along the "Silk Roads" (1988-1997) also reveals the evolution of geopolitical power relations in Central Asia: these projects having been carried out at the turning point of the collapse of the USSR, the recomposition of the geopolitical landscape of Central Asia has resulted in the shift from a Soviet influence to a Chinese influence.
