Description
Summary:In this article the author states that at world's exhibition in Paris the Serbian sculpture was presented through the works of Borde Jovanovic, Petar Ubavkic and Sima Roksandic. These three sculptors are connected with the beginning of the development of the Serbian sculpture, who is considered to be the representatives of academism while Roksandic is considered to be close to the realism. Borde Jovanovic was awarded the gold medal for his work the Monument to Kosovo Heroes in Paris in 1900. It contributed to the development of sculpture which was largely in the shadow of painting. Generally speaking, the first phase of the development of sculpture with Serbs at the end of the 19th century bears the marks of academism confronted with new aspirations in the European art of that time. The European sculpture and painting under the influence of new artists were breaking off with the academism looking for new ways of artistic expression. .
