description An earthquake of Ms (surface wave magnitude) 7.3 occurred in Yutian county in China on 12 February 2014 with the epicentral intensity of IX. The direct economic loss was about 1,080.612 million Yuan. This letter presents details of the tectonic features of the region, the damage caused by the earthquake, and the emergency response soon after the earthquake. The observed tectonic features show that the earthquake resulted from movement along the Altyn Tagh fault (left lateral strike-slip) system.
