description Modern times require a methodological effort to build theoreticalmechanisms that may allow us to understand the complexity of therole played by contemporary journalism. In this connection, thismanuscript proceeds with an analysis of the relationship betweenjournalism and strategies for public visibility of social actors, andthen sustains the inversion of the analytical perspective, which istraditionally verified by discourse analysis focused on the reflectionon the production of news. By proposing the concept of discursiveruin, the work ascertains that the media visibility strategies ofprotest movements are also likely to give rise to informative texts, enabling the researcher to explicit discursive ruin gestures in viewof the protest behavior, that reflect the ruin of transparency (andobjectivity) of the journalistic language as well. Therefore, if theanalyzer is able to overcome the mere accusations of directingmeanings, he will be effectively capable of contributing to theconstruction of a more complex way of thinking about journalismand its discursive effects of truth.
