Summary: | Background. In modern society, the problem of maintaining a high level of students’
health as the most promising part of the population, contributing to the further
economic development of the state, is becoming especially urgent. Physical activity
has a direct impact on the health of the individual, increases his physical and adaptive
capabilities, forms an active social and life position. The existing approach to
the study of physical culture and recreation in modern sociology does not allow us to
determine its role and place in the leisure system of students. In this context there is
a need for a theoretical understanding of physical activity as a form of leisure, and
social research activities, to determine areas that effectively contribute to the health
of young people.
Materials and methods. The fulfillment of the formulated tasks was realized on
the basis of the analysis of publications devoted to the problems of organizing
leisure time, contributing to the formation of a healthy lifestyle among students.
The study of modern trends and promising trends in the sports movement, as well as
the author’s sociological research using focus groups and a questionnaire survey of
student youth in Penza, which was attended by 864 respondents, allowed us to conclude
that classes in sports sections and in modern sports clubs are the most effective
areas of physical culture. These types of physical activity attract young people to
regular exercise, and as a result, they form a need for health-saving behavior.
Results. Based on the analysis of the conducted sociological research, it was revealed
that classes in sports sections and in modern sports clubs are the main directions
of physical culture and health-improving activities, contributing to the formation
of a healthy lifestyle among students.
Conclusions. The analysis of the most preferred types of physical culture implemented
by students in their leisure time allowed us to determine the attendance of
sports sections and modern sports clubs as the main directions that generate motivation
for regular physical activity. The direct influence of physical activity on the
formation of the need for a healthy lifestyle has been established.
