Description
Summary:This article explains current theory surrounding refugee students within educational policy in Canada to answer the research question, What criteria need to be included in educational policy surrounding refugee students in Canada? A number of key studies related to various aspects of refugee students in a Canadian context were synthesized to develop an outline to better include refugee students. The components of this outline include foundational the themes of using an asset approach and refugee and generational status as well as additional themes of academic success, issues of identity, recognizing power imbalances, and considerations at the individual level. This outline can be used to determine how (or if) educational policy is including refugee students in a positive manner as well as areas for policy improvement.
