description The study of recategorisation in its first vision, according Apothéloz and Reichler-Béguelin (1995), can be understood as a designation of strategy by which the referents introduced in the text / speech may be transformed during the textual construction process according to the communicative purposes its interlocutors. In this context, this study intends to examine how the metaphoric recategorisation process without mention of referring expression contributes to the meaning building process of the multimodal textual genre named meme. For this analysis, we selected three memes thematizing the impeachment process suffered by President Dilma Rousseff, published in several websites. Within our analysis, it was made an interface between the Textual Linguistics and the Cognitive Linguistics, because it is necessary we actuate elements rooted in textual surface, as well as its sociocognitive environment. It was explored the theoretical subsidy of authors as Mondada and Dubois (1995); Reichler and Apothéloz-Béguelin (1995); Lima (2003, 2009, 2011); Lakoff and Johnson (1987); Lakoff (1980), which give us support in our discussions. After the analysis, it was realized that the metaphoric recategorisation without mention of referring expression was of great relevance for understanding, as well as to construct meaning of texts chosen for the study.
