Summary:This article provides an immanent critique of Sohn-Rethel’s epistemological investigations. It aims to preserve his questions, while nevertheless suggesting a different answer. To this end, money must not be understood as a medium of exchange, as is the case with Sohn-Rethel. Rather, the functions and cycles of money are to be understood as a technique of measurement and quantification, as well as a means of constitution of measured and quantified relations, and an overarching, trans-individual method for the valorization of capital.
