Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), cognitive dysfunction (CD) and dementia (DA) are chronic pathologies of high prevalence in people aged over 65 years.
Patients with T2D and CD perform less diabetes self-care; they make greater use of the health system and have more dependency.
Systematic reviews and meta-analysis studies which included more than 25 original papers and more than 2 million patients estimated a relative risk increase for every type of dementia in diabetic patients of 1.73 (95% confidence interval 1.65—1.82). |
