description The article has emphasized the need to search new educational technologies that facilitate the development of medical students’ practical skills. Formation of practical skills is largely determined by knowledge of dentistry theory, the formation of personal clinical experience. This article is devoted to the organization of phantom practical sessions of the main sections of Therapeutic Dentistry students of dental faculty. There have been analyzed advantages and disadvantages of this system in the assimilation of knowledge, practical skills and development of clinical thinking of students. An interesting way to organize extracurricular self-work of students at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of “UMSA” is a practical phantom class after basic education classes for motivated students, whose purpose is to improve practical skills related to future professional activities. In extracurricular time self-work of students should be based on individual-oriented approach, which involves creating a positive emotional environment in the classroom, the combination of group and individual forms of education of the students, but the basic principle in achieving educational goals is to control the results of scientific work by the teacher. At the workshops at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of “UMSA” extracurricular self-work of students is not regulated in time, held in the training room, which is equipped for every student depending on the topic classes. It should be noted that during extracurricular practical classes students use mainly reconstructive and creative level of independent work. Thus, independent cognitive activity gives people the opportunity not only to obtain new theoretical knowledge but also their almost perfect. The role of the teacher in the modernized education system remains as important as ever, but it has changed its basic functions: the teacher is not now the primary source of semantic information, but only the organizer of the students’ studying. He consults and provides systematic monitoring of extracurricular self-work of students, encouraging them to any kind of independent activity, the priority of research and creative nature.
