description The article gives a historical overview of the evolution of the idea of Three Seas (Intermarium) that emerged after Poland gained its independence 100 years ago. Today, this idea is alive again and is being actively supported by the United States of America but perceived with caution by the majority of European states. Some see it as an attempt to realize Poland’s far-reaching European political ambitions, others – as a strive of the American President to deepen the split in the European Union and at the same time to promote American economic interests here. The author considers the development of ideas not only in the general geopolitical context, but also from the point of view of the modern Polish political elite
