| Summary: | In this paper, we work with the hypothesis that an urban-regional basin is being formed between the state of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, although we focus our analysis on Espírito Santo. The area of this basin overlaps, or is contiguous, the coastal sedimentary basins of the two states, in particular the area between the metropolitan region of Vitória and the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. We argue that this basin is in process of formation and densification due to the marked development in the last decade that occurred as a result of exploitation and extraction of oil. In order to demonstrate this hypothesis, we have mapped the main infrastructures and also the firms present in this urban-regional basin. We mapped as well the migratory and commuting flows associated to the workers of oil productive chain in the period from 2000 to 2010, using microdata from the Brazilian Demographic Census.
