description Purpose Pediatric dermatologic conditions are rarely true emergencies. However, there are many patients having dermatologic problems in pediatric emergency centers (PECs) who complain skin problems. Our aim was to evaluate the occurrence, clinical characteristics, and the reason for dermatologic problem-related visits in a PEC. Methods The medical records from 2012 to 2013 of a PEC were analyzed and dermatologic problem-related visits were identified by searching the international classification of disease (ICD)-10 codes with LXX.X and R21. Results A total of 1697 children and adolescents were studied. The mean age was 9.8±4.2 years old. The peak time of day was 20:00–20:59 (13.3%). Common skin findings were pruritic wheals and flares (24.3%), erythematous macules and papules (22.7%), vesicles (16.2%) and lesions not specified (50.9%). The reasons of visit were disturbing one's sleeping (19.5%), worrying about respiratory tract involvement (12.2%), for avoiding particular food (10.8%) and worrying about its infectivity (6.6%). Only 21 patients (0.1%) were hospitalized. Conclusion Although the patients knew skin lesions are not urgent, they could not wait by morning for outpatient clinics and visited PEC for several reasons at night.
