Summary:Objective (s): This study aimed to assess the dental caries risk in 12- to 16-years old school students in Ahvaz, Iran. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of students. Caries risk was assessed according to Caries Risk Assessment Tool. The independent t-test and chi-square were performed to analyze the data. Results: In all 257 students were studied (124 female and 133 male). The prevalence of dental caries was 75.9% and 70.8% of the students were at high risk. The prevalence of caries was found higher among females but males were at higher risk for caries. (P-value < 0.05) Conclusion: Dental caries was more prevalent among females students and the majority especially males, were at higher risk. It seems a need for oral health education interventions are essential.
