| description | The present article aims at illuminating some of the facets of the survival strategies employed by poor households in Argentina, as well as gender relationships within the frame of deteriorating conditions deriving of the economic crisis faced by this country during the last decade. In order to do it we analyze the main characteristics of the conceptual environment, trying to understand to what degree the studies on survival strategies allow to reveal of living conditions and gender relationships in the sectors of society which are more socially and economically marginalized in Latin America. We mainly adopt the Argentinean researcher Susana Torrado’s theoretical-methodological approach, as well as the necessity to re-conceive the traditional notion of family. Also, we assess the results of studies on global work burden and time distribution, in order to evaluate the opportunities in which family survival strategies lead to block the possibilities of personal development and vulnerability overcoming among women in the region. |
