Summary:Greek inscriptions from Sicily dating between the end of the 6th and the end of the 4th century BC. give us some information about the importance of the land as a resource that affected the relationship between Greek Sicilian colonies and about the territory as a place of power. From the analysis of epigraphic texts it is possible to reflect on a general dynamic, which is well described by the literary sources and which is also suggested by the archaeological data: the land is a resource which induces men to found new colonies and which encourages relations between the Sicily places and at the same time an instrument of the tyrants’ power through the processes of territorialization (colonies foundation), deterritorialization (peoples removal), and also a key element of the identity sensibleness of each citizen.
