Description
Summary:This article studies the position of single mothers by choice ‒SMBC‒ in the stage of access to motherhood, that is, from the moment they decide to start their family projects until their sons/daughters are incorporated into their homes. The hypothesis maintained here is that the SMBC empowerment degree varies throughout time so that, for example, those who have opted for international adoption are, on its initial stage, in a situation of vulnerability that can subside when they finally manage to be mothers. We want to state here that in order to analyze the socio-political positions of these women we have to consider not only variables as age, education, income, etc., but also their different access channels to motherhood as well as the stage in the development of their family projects, that is, their temporal dimension.
