Description
Summary:On the 27th of July, 2015 it has been three years since the start of the local border traffic agreement between the Kaliningrad Oblast and Poland. The primary objective of this agreement was to simplify procedures on the Polish-Russian border for inhabitants of Kaliningrad Oblast and citizens of Poland. The opening of borders in 2012 led to increased interest of the local community to cross the PolishRussian border, mainly for shopping and tourism, which just a few years ago (before the local border traffic agreement) was out of reach, due to  the limited market access, higher transport costs and visa difficulties. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of the opening-up of the border on the development of cross-border shopping in the Polish-Russian borderland.
