description The main aim of the study was to assess food hygiene practices and attitudes of a sample of street food vendors at KwaDlangezwa in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The study adopted a qualitative research approach and purposive sampling. Data was collected by means of interview questionnaires and an observation schedule and it was collected in the form of face-to-face communications. The data analysis was conducted using Excel for Microsoft office to formulate graphs and tables from the responses of the various participants. Very few of the vendors in this study acknowledged that it was important to store food at its correct temperature so as to prevent spoilage and some of them said improper storage of food may be hazardous to health. This calls for the urgent training on hygiene practices and food safety of street vendors and governmental support at the local levels.
