Summary: | This paper presents some advantages in reducing the logging distances if new forest roads
were built or existing ones were extended. In this case, collection distances with forestry tractors
would be reduced, labor and fuel requirements would be reduced, resulting in significant savings.
As a case study, five felling areas from Sudrigiu Forest District (F.D.), Production Unit
(P.U.) III Galbena, Bihor Forest Administration (F.A.), trees in which group sheltherwood
connecting cuttings will be made next year.
The estimate of the works for the five felling areas in the current situation was made, but an
estimate of the operating costs was made in four desired variants.
The increase of the accessibility of the forest fund is a basic condition for a sustainable forest
management. Forest roads are technological transport routes, of private utility, used for: forest
management, interventions in case of damages, calamities or disasters, being closed to public traffic. |
