| description | This text is a summary version of chapters 1 and 3 of the thesis “Cultura Política e Percepção Tributária: uma análise sobre a sustentação da democracia brasileira”, aimed to understand the role of tax perception in keeping with democratic support from Brazilians. The central hypothesis is that the way Brazilians perceive the taxes levied on your support and satisfaction with democracy in Brazil. To achieve the objective and to test the hypothesis databases surveys applied nationwide between 1991 and 2008 were analyzed. This theme arose from readings that indicated that distrust has become a characteristic of the Brazilians, and the explanation for such behavior would be dissatisfaction with the State (such as provision of goods and services). However, for governments to provide goods and services it is necessary that the population comply with certain duties such as paying taxes - provided the social contract theory, defining mutual rights and duties to the aforementioned actors. However, opinion polls have revealed the fragility of the relation between society–State, which can endanger democratic stability. These are some of the issues addressed in the thesis. |
