| Summary: | The study of antonomasia, which is in fact a double trope since there are antonomasia of proper name and antonomasia of common name, could imply the existence of a system of the proper name based on positions and organized around a prototype, the expressions being located at a greater or lesser distance from it. After having shown how the category of the proper name can be structured on the basis of a double movement of deconceptualization and conceptualization, a double movement of which the uses of the proper name bear the trace in discourse, we show that the antonomasia of common name, which fixes a referential expression, is located at the entrance of the proper name system, when the antonomasia of proper name, which constructs a conceptual category from an individual denomination, refers to a position beyond which the perception of “property” disappears. These types of expressions, which illustrate a figurative use of the definite description and the proper name, represent complementary tropes. In fine, we underline the existence of nested antonomasias, that is to say antonomasias (of proper name or of common name) formed from another antonomasia (of common name or of proper name).
