| description | Within the OECD countries, many devices for the development of digital technologies have been put in place. Taking advantage of this technological development, work organisation and places of work have diversified in response to both the economic context (to be efficient, effective and efficient) and to the expectations of employees who want a better balance between their work and their private life. Remote work has increased and takes various forms, such as working from home or being able to work outside the home or the usual place of work. This last possibility can be realized by setting up third places to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing: coworking spaces, fab lab, living lab. Third-places are already emerging in most developed countries and their number increases each year. Research on these new forms of organization is booming, although it is still in its infancy. The aim of our research is to propose a synthesis of knowledge on third places. The results now allow us to better understand the differences between these various types of places and organizations. This state of the art has also helped to advance our reflection on their definition and categorization. If there is a set of scattered writings on third places, our work has enabled us to detect shortcomings. However, the writings testify to the enthusiasm concerning these new places of exchange and present interesting results as to the impact of their implementation on the territories concerned and on employment. |
