description AIM:To evaluate the clinical effects of amniotic membrane transplantation in the treatment of fungal corneal ulcer. <p>METHODS: Fifty cases(50 eyes)of fungal corneal ulcer were included in this study from January 2010 to December 2013. The cases were divided into two groups randomly, the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group was treated by antifungal drugs and amniotic membrane transplantation. The control group was treated only by antifungal drugs. The visual analogue scale(VAS)of the symptoms, the ulcer healing time, the vision and the complications were observed. <p>RESULTS: The symptoms of the experimental group were disappeared more quickly than the control group 1,2wk after treatment, for example Pain(<i>t</i>=6.463, <i>t</i>=10.134; <i>P</i><0.05), Photophobia(<i>t</i>=5.02, <i>t</i>=7.534; <i>P</i><0.05), Foreign body sensation(<i>t</i>=3.771, <i>t</i>=7.459; <i>P</i><0.05). The ulcer healing time of the experimental group were shorter than that of the control group(<i>t</i>=9.524,<i>P</i><0.05). The vision of the experimental group was got better than that of the control group 1mo later(<i>F</i>=6.414,<i>P</i><0.05).The complications of the experimental group were fewer than that of the control group(<i>F</i>=29.621, <i>P</i><0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: Amniotic membrane transplantation is an effective treatment to fungal corneal ulcer.
