Description
Summary:The adhesion strength of coatings depends on various factors including wood type, the application method of the coating on wood surface. The aim of this study is to determine the highest adhesion strength from among eight varnish systems based on acrylic resin using varnish viscosity, film thickness and SEM images. Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis L.) was used in the evaluation of the properties of adhesion strength. Spruce wood surfaces were coated with varnish using a brush. Film thickness and viscosity values demonstrated that varnishes with better penetration provided an improved adhesion, and better adhering varnishes had an increased level of cohesive failure in the coating. Differences in the adhesion strength of varnish systems were also observed on SEM images.
