description The author retraces the path that led him in the 1960s to carry out one of the first studies on the Pentecostal evangelical movement in Latin America. After recalling the terms on which he sought to situate his relationship with the research topic, he goes on to describe the strange subject/object dialectic that developed as he gradually became more and more immersed in a dual otherness, Latin America and the charismatic movement. During this lengthy voyage, the “object” of his research took on a life of its own, mutating into a subject that confronted the researcher (who had assumed that he was the “subject”) with new questions and a need to reconsider his initial certitudes.
