description This article is part of the tribute for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the writers O. Paz and J. Revueltas. In the first part of the paper, the authors are read from their relationship with communication, the press and the mass media in 20th century Mexico. Two models of relationship between these intellectuals, the printed and audiovisual media, and the political communication of their time are pointed out. In the second part, a quick review is made of the characteristics of the relationship between the State, Society and the Media, especially up to the year 2000. Some contributions are proposed regarding the thought and aesthetics of these authors with "dissident communication" and "citizen communication". Although the differences between the authors and communication are clear, the intention is to take them as a pre-text and then link them to some characteristics of communication (especially before the boom of new technologies) and what this has meant for citizen communication. Today there are very particular characteristics of political communication in Mexico, although there are undeniable advances, it is far from being desirable for the current challenges of the democratization of the country. In the final part, as a hypothesis, some links between the thinking of these authors and the challenges and opportunities of political and citizen communication in Mexico are highlighted.
