Description
Summary:In 1918, the socialist federation of Pas-de-Calais remains marked by mining unionism. Its great reformist elected representatives who approved the Sacred Union are confirmed in the elections of 1919 but are increasingly challenged by activists who are enthusiastic for the October revolution and who are organized in the Committee of the Third International in a moment marked by major strikes that reached their peak in the spring of 1920. The birth of the Communist Party in the Pas-de-Calais appears here as a desire to regenerate a socialism deemed disqualified by the attitude of its reformist leaders.
