Description
Summary:This research aimed to verify the willingness to pay of Rio Cocó Ecological Park visitors to keep the park in good state of conservation and preservation. For that, it was used Contingent Valuation Method (MVC) with estimation of the Willingness to Pay (WTP). This is a quantitative study, and the objectives are descriptive. 159 people who have visited the park in the year 2016 answered the questionnaires. Descriptive statistics analysis, logistic regression and willingness to pay estimation were used. The results indicated that 58% of the respondents are willing to pay to visit Rio Cocó Ecological Park. The sample profile has the following characteristics: 64% were female; 25% of the respondents had dependents; the average number of visits to the park was 2,09 visits per year; the average age was 29,69 years old; and the average salary of respondents was R$3.669,00. The logistic regression revealed that the variables “income”, “conservation”, “gender”, “number of dependents” and “schooling” presented significance in the model. Family income, gender and number of dependents increase the probability that the individual will be willing to pay for the park visitation, while schooling and conservation reduce the probability of willingness to pay. There was also an average WTP of R$11,53 to visit Rio Cocó Ecological Park, and a total WTP of R$44.194,49 per month. It is possible to conclude that most visitors are willing to pay to use Rio Cocó Ecological Park in exchange for improvements in preservation and conservation.
