Summary:Known for the complexity of its structure, strychnine remains to be one of the challenging targets of total synthesis. Generations of chemists have contributed to the total synthesis of strychnine since Woodward’s groundbreaking synthesis. Today, new strategies and tactics are still emerging for the optimization of the route of strychnine synthesis. In this review, I discuss the documents about strychnine synthesis in the past five years with the aim of demonstrating the trend of the strategy and tactics of total synthesis.
