description A figure of 249 species of the family Asteraceae (Compositae) endemic or nearly endemic to the state of Oaxaca are identified, several of them marginally distributed at the neighbor states bordering Oaxaca. The state shares the larger number of endemic species with Puebla (53.4%), while the lower number is shared with the state of Veracruz (2.8%). This paper analyses the geographic distribution of 209 species of endemic Asteraceae with specimens that were able to be georreferenced, using a grid square network with each cell 15 minutes of latitude and longitude (N= 162 grid squares). Results indicate that 103 grid squares (63.4%) record at least one endemic species. In addition, by using a classification of the state in five main vegetation types (biomes), it is noted that temperate forests include the largest number of endemic species (164) and the tropical humid forests the lower number (15). The main areas in Oaxaca concentrating endemic species are discussed, searching for any relationship with the biomes such cells include.
