description | Franco-Japanese research on fossil primates and particularly on the evolution of hominoids and the origins of hominids is not recent and was formalized in two international cooperative programs of the CNRS: a PICS and a GDRI devoted to the Neogene of Eastern Africa. The results are important for understanding the Miocene primates, their diversity, their locomotion, their geological context and their environment. This collaboration has also permitted the initiation of other collaborative researches on the Palaeogene of Southern Africa and the study of fossil Cercopithecoids (Mio-Plio-Pleistocene) from Europe, Asia and Africa. |
