description Gökçeada (Imbros) is the biggest island of Turkey in the northeast Aegean Sea. Throughout history, Gökçeada has been the island of immigrant. Gökçeada is the epitome of migration. Thanks to both in-migration and out-migration, Gökçeada’s population has not been changed vastly. The islanders of Gökçeada are either the Rums or from Anatolia. The Greek population of the island has fallen down by over 90 per cent since the 1960s. According to the 2000 Population Census, its population is 8894 and 7278 inhabitants live in the town centre, while 1616 of them live in the 9 villages of the island. In one hand it has socia-cultural wealth by migration, on the other hand, upon dissatisfaid Rum migrants this subject has been discussed internetional platform.
