| Summary: | The article is aimed at studying the relationship between the way and scope of support for biotechnology development on the one hand and the chosen bioeconomic strategy on the other. The scale of expenditure by companies and governments in some countries on biotechnology research and development has been analyzed, and the leading states by the indicator of absolute and relative costs have been identified. The distribution of biotechnology research and development by the sphere of their application has been studied. A relationship between the size and source of financial support for biotechnology research and the bioeconomic strategy, adopted by the government of a given country, has been determined. Characteristics of the development of bioeconomy in the developed countries, particularly in the G-7 states, as well as in some developing countries, have been analyzed. A comparative analysis of two approaches to the government regulation and support: «bottom-up» and «top-down», which have a different degree of financial support for biotechnology research and bioeconomic development, have been carried out. |
